The Highland Golf Links Pro-Am – 5 Reasons Why You Should Enter a Team
The Highlands of Scotland are like no other place in the world. Natural beauty, endless charm, and a warm friendly welcome are always guaranteed on any visit to the Scottish Highlands.
At the end of the high season each year, something special takes place. 80 Professionals and 240 amateurs gather to compete in the Highland Golf Links Pro-Am, as teams of 4 play over three world-class Scottish championship links golf courses.
In 2017 Bonnie Wee Golf were lucky enough to have a team play in the event, and it was more fun than we could possibly have imagined. From start to finish, the Pro-Am is superb. There were too many highlights of the trip to mention them all. Here are our top 5 reasons why every golfer should do everything they can to play in the Highland Golf Links Pro-Am (at least once)!
Watch the Pro’s plot their way around the links!
Playing with a Pro is always fun! Being able to marvel at their ball striking, balance, poise, effortless distance and perfect swings is one thing, but witnessing a pro successfully plot their way around a Championship links course is something else. There’s a good chance the wind will blow on at least one of the 3 days of the Pro-Am and if your pro shoots under par on that day you really will have witnessed a master at work.
Play 3 of Scotland’s best links courses in their top condition.
Castle Stuart, Royal Dornoch and The Nairn Golf Club are quite the trio of golf courses. As the Pro-Am takes place at the end of the high season, the courses are all in superior condition. The green keeping teams have worked tirelessly throughout the season, continually improving the course condition for the duration of the summer. By the end of the season the tees are like greens, the fairways are perfectly firm with plenty of run, and the greens are fast, firm and true – everything you could hope for from a links course.
Enjoy highland hospitality at its best.
There’s nothing quite like a highland welcome! Spending three days in the highlands gives you a great excuse to sample and enjoy the local hospitality. No trip to Dornoch would be complete without a visit to the magnificent Luigi’s restaurant. While in Inverness, look out for Rocpool Restaurant and The Mustard Seed, both fantastic places to relax and re-fuel after a day on the links. Bare in mind that there are 320 extra hungry mouths to feed in the area during the Pro-Am so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment!
Create life long memories with friends and loved ones.
The reason we all play golf (well, us amateurs anyway!), for fun and spending quality time with friends. This couldn’t be more true than at the Highland Pro-Am. Three days playing top notch golf courses followed by a fabulous dinner at the Kingsmills Hotel will ensure your three days playing in The Highland Links Pro-Am will live long in the memory!
Make the most of being in the Highlands and play more courses!
This is perhaps the best reason of all to play in the Highland Golf Links Pro-Am. If you’re going to travel to play the three courses in the pro-am, well, you might as well take full advantage of being in the area and sample some of the other great courses in the area. There are plenty to choose form including Brora, Golspie and Tain. All three are tremendously fun courses and great value too.
Whatever your reasons for playing in the highland Pro-Am, one thing is guaranteed – FUN!
Happy Golfing!
